Waiting on Wednesday: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine highlighting upcoming releases we’re most looking forward to.

LAIA is a Scholar living under the brutal rule of the Martial Empire. When her brother is arrested for treason, Laia goes undercover as a slave at the empire’s greatest military academy in exchange for assistance from rebel Scholars who vow to save her brother from execution.

ELIAS is the academy’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias is considering deserting the military, but before he can, he’s ordered to participate in a ruthless contest to choose the next Martial emperor.

When Laia and Elias’s paths cross at the academy, they will find that their destinies are more intertwined that either could have imagined and that their choices will change the future of the empire itself.

Vow your blood and body to the empire.
Keep your heart for yourself.

How could I not want this book? IT’S GOT REBEL SCHOLARS and a military academy. I have a thing for books with smart badasses. ‘Cause who wants a brainless idiot trying figure shit out? No. Librarians and scholars are the kickass people of the world. For sure. And that cover is kind of cool. Even though I don’t really understand what the hell is going on there.

As a librarian in real life, I feel compelled to agree with you 100%! lol! I’m excited for the same reason, FINALLY a rebel who’s a scholar! I can’t wait to check this one out. Great WoW pick!!
